Maddison was in her final year of uni when she started looking for employment opportunities and subsequently came across our Graduate Program. Now at BMF, Maddison is working exclusively on ALDI Australia and absolutely loving it.
What prompted you to apply to this year’s Grad Program?
I started to keep an eye out for graduate programs or account executive roles in my final semester of uni. There were a lot of generic sales & marketing roles out there, however I was most excited about the prospect of starting in an advertising agency. When I heard about the Comms Council Grad Program, I remember thinking it would be a great way to start my career – I had the chance to interview for roles at multiple agencies, learn about the industry in monthly sessions and meet other grads. Looking back, it was definitely the most appealing program I had applied for.
How do you feel about the agency you were placed with – BMF?
BMF is an amazing agency to work for. Gutsy, cheeky and humble are the three traits that everyone lives by, which I really like. My team and the agency as a whole have produced some amazing work for a range of brands, so it’s pretty special to be a part of that.
What campaign are you working on right now (or just wrapped up?)
I work exclusively on ALDI Australia and absolutely love it. There are smaller weekly tasks and/or campaigns that I run myself, (generally across radio, digital and/or point-of-sale) however I’m also working on a few large campaigns such as Christmas and Special Buys – Epic Reminders.
What do you enjoy about your current role?
As a graduate, you have so many chances to ask lots of questions and get involved in everything. Whilst the grocery/retail sector is extremely fast paced, there’s always a new campaign to sink your teeth into. From an account management perspective, I really enjoy working with clients, as well as the other agency departments. You’re across the entire process from the first brief to seeing an idea come to life.
Any advice for new grads?
Don’t be afraid to be thrown in the deep end. Be curious. Ask lots of questions. Take the time to get to know people. Positivity and a smile goes a long way.
What were some highlights from the program for you?
I’d always look forward to the monthly functions/ agency sessions with all the other graduates. It was so nice to see familiar faces from other agencies and catch-up over a drink or two. We actually started a Facebook group so we could all stay in contact outside the Program.
