News Corp Australia, the official Australian representative of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, has today announced that entries for the 2017 Cannes Young Lions competition are now open.

Now in its ninth year, the competition searches for the best young talent in media and creative industries to represent Australia at the 2017 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The award categories are print, media, cyber and marketing.

To enter, participants must prepare a response to a News Corp Australia brief asking them to showcase the power of print in their relevant category.

News Corp Australia chief marketing officer Tony Phillips said: “Newspapers have long been a trusted and credible source of information and a very effective brand building channel but consumers and advertisers today have numerous and varied ways they can access content and reach an audience. This brief will tap into the creative ideas of a younger demographic, challenging them to rediscover print as a platform for building a brand by putting it front page.

“News Corp Australia’s Young Lions competition does a great job every year of unearthing the best young creative talent in Australia. If you’re an ambitious young creative or marketer there is no better way to challenge yourself and gain invaluable professional and personal development in the process. I wish all the entrants the very best of luck.”

Entries will be judged by a panel of industry specialists nationally.

In 2017, the top five teams in each category will fly to Sydney to participate in a three day boot camp and compete in a second round 24 hour brief focused on a charity. The winning team in each category will fly to Cannes with all accommodation and travel costs covered by News Corp Australia.

The competition, which closes on 31 March, is open to entrants who meet the category criteria and are under the age of 30 as of September 29, 2017. Registration costs $150 +GST for a team of two.

The 64th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is being held in the south of France from June 17 to 24 , 2017.
