What to expect

All the SBS Inclusion Program courses/modules are highly engaging online learning experiences. They tell real stories, create empathy, make complex information digestible, and provide practical things people can do on a day-to-day basis.

Content is largely delivered as short films, animations that make difficult concepts easier to understand, and interviews featuring real stories from diverse people, academics, and managers of diverse teams. It is complemented by activities designed to make people think about themselves. Further reading provides more detailed information on specific topics and links to a range of resources.

Note: There are no formal assessments, pass or fail, however, there are some activities within the course that need to be completed.

An essential qualification for everybody within the advertising, media or marketing industry.

No matter what level of seniority you are in your business, it is the responsibility of everyone to take positive action to drive forward change in the industry and indeed the world.

Course Content

The SBS Inclusion Program, offered by the Advertising Council Australia (ACA), is a comprehensive training package comprising four key modules, each designed to support inclusive, respectful, and culturally competent workplaces. The program includes:

  1. Inclusive Recruitment
  2. Appropriate Workplace Behaviour with Respect@Work
  3. Cultural Diversity
  4. First Nations

Below is a summary of what each module covers:

1. Inclusive Recruiment course

The Inclusive Recruitment short course is designed to help you build a flexible and supportive hiring process to attract and secure talent from a variety of backgrounds while respecting the needs of individuals. The course is structured in two modules, the first explains what the first explains what organisations and individuals need to do prior to undertaking inclusive recruitment, and, the second covers the inclusive recruitment process from start to finish.

The Inclusive Recruitment course includes the following topics:

  • Creating an inclusive recruitment process
  • Discrimination and recruitment
  • Special measures and targeting specific cohorts
  • Rethinking the role
  • Counteracting bias
  • Reaching diverse talent and inclusive advertising
  • Interview and assessment

2. Appropriate Workplace Behaviour with Respect@Work course

The Appropriate Workplace Behaviour course includes information to help all employees better understand and respond to legislative requirements around Discrimination, Harassment and Psychosocial Hazards. It is designed to enable organisations to mitigate their risks whilst enabling workers to create safe and productive workplaces.

The Appropriate Workplace Behaviour course addresses Respect@Work legislation, positive duty requirements, sexual harassment, discrimination, victimisation, vilification, and bullying.

The course can be delivered to employees on your learning management system or via our online course portal.

The Appropriate Workplace Behaviour with Respect@Work course includes the following topics:

  • Respect@Work report findings and legislation on sexual harassment
  • Positive duty requirements around sexual harassment
  • Psychosocial hazards, trauma and how employers can minimise these hazards
  • Discrimination, bullying, harassment, victimisation, and vilification
  • Manager and supervisor responsibilities, responses, and recommended management action
  • Impacts on individuals and organisations
  • Role of bystanders
  • Reasonable adjustments

    3. Cultural Diversity course

    The Cultural Diversity course helps individuals to gain practical skills and culturally specific knowledge for use in the workplace and everyday life. The content is based on documentation authored by Robert Bean (BA, Grad Dip Education, Cert IV Training and Education, and Managing Director of Cultural Diversity Services Pty Ltd) and provided by the Australian Multicultural Foundation. Content is also derived from video interviews with individuals from a broad range of cultures, and with managers of diverse teams.

    4. First Nations course

    The First Nations Course is designed to assist people in understanding the importance and advantages of Australian Indigenous cultural diversity.

    The course explores themes central to understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as they apply to the workplace. Each theme is brought to life through a series of bespoke Indigenous artworks created by leading artist Elizabeth Close from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in central Australia.     The First Nations course includes the following topics:
