Summary
For decades foster children turning 18 were left to fend for themselves, and all too often forced into homelessness and crime to survive. For generations, the sector’s push for continued state support for foster children went unheard, and the youth casualty list climbed. One incredibly dedicated group and one incredibly successful behaviour change campaign has changed all that. In 2020, we made headlines when the Victorian Government announced Extended Care to 21 years, with other states and territories following quickly. Foster children in Victoria, Tasmania, WA, SA, NT and ACT are now supported to 21 thanks to #makeit21.
