Summary
In response to a healthcare crisis, a campaign was launched to reduce unnecessary emergency department visits in South Australia. The big idea, "Umm…ergency," branded the moment of uncertainty people feel when they're unsure whether their symptoms require emergency care. The campaign successfully directed people to Healthdirect, helping to save lives by redirecting calls and reducing avoidable emergency department presentations. The work proved that a bold, creative approach can effectively manage demand in public health and deliver a significant return on investment.
