Summary
Faced with a declining participation rate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, a campaign was launched to overcome the many barriers, including taboo. By leveraging insights around susceptibility and self-efficacy, the campaign focused on the "fear of regret" and used the line, "Don't take the risk, take the test." The emotionally driven story of what one could lose to bowel cancer resonated with the audience and successfully drove 25,080 additional test kit returns, proving that a complex or taboo topic can be tackled with creative, evidence-based thinking to drive positive health outcomes.
