Youngbloods QLD is kicking off 2017 with the appointment of GPY&R’s Angus Whitton as this year’s chairman. Assisting him as co-chair is last year’s PR manager, Nina Clarke of Ray White Commercial.

Says Whitton: “I’m very excited to begin working with the committee this year. We have a few fresh faces who are keen to make Youngbloods better than it has ever been before.”

2017 is gearing up to be another huge year for Youngbloods QLD with the committee hitting the ground running with its first event at the end of March.

Following the success of 2016’s sell-out event ‘The Hand You Need’ industry panel event and a range of networking events held throughout last year, Whitton notes that he and the team have plenty more planned for 2017.

He says: “The beauty of this industry is collaboration so that is the focus this year. No one enjoys awkwardly networking so our committee’s goal is to be more relaxed to encourage people to come along and feel comfortable to have a chat.”

This year’s committee involves:

• Communications manager: Gabbi Johnston (Queensland University of Technology)

• Communications manager: Meredith McLean (Dirty Chook)

• Public relations manager: Alison Prowse (George Patterson Y&R)

• Events manager: Nicole Klinakis (Andzen)

• Events manager: Rubini Guaratnam (Queensland University of Technology)

• Graphic designer: Nicolai Henriksen (Queensland University of Technology)

• QUT representative: Timothy Henderson

• UQ representatives: Alice Lane & Clare Farrugia

• Industry representatives: Gemma Ferrier (JC Decaux), Claire Morrissey (Sony), Matthew Garrett (Carat), Vanessa van Dalsen (George Patterson Y&R)

The group is dedicated to putting on networking events throughout the year, as well as sharing industry news, organising internships and other opportunities for motivated young individuals entering and working in the communications industry.
