Ahead of his highly anticipated AWARD talk taking place in Sydney next month, JWT Worldwide chief creative director Matt Eastwood reveals how his passion outside of work has helped fuel his success in the advertising industry.
TCC: What is your passion?
ME: My passion outside of advertising is architecture and design
TCC: Why?
ME: I obsess over both. I compulsively buy books about architecture and design. I read blogs about architecture and design. I go to lectures about architecture and design. When I travel, I take photos of beautiful buildings. I visit museums about design. I love it.
TCC: How long have you been indulging in it?
ME: My Bachelor of Arts degree is actually in Design, so that’s where it all started.
TCC: How often do you get to indulge in it?
ME: Every day. I’m constantly on the lookout for great design, whether it’s in architecture or graphics. I’ve even designed four houses, three of which have been featured in interior design magazines. (Check out Matt’s work below)
TCC: What difference does it make to your life, professionally and personally?
ME: It makes me happy to see and be surrounded by beautiful things. And it pushes me harder in my professional life to put beauty out into the world. I feel a responsibility.
TCC: Who do you share your passion with?
ME: Anyone who will listen. My husband is incredibly passionate about architecture and design, too. So, we constantly geek-out about beautiful architecture, design, furniture, objects, whatever. And, of course, our home is like a gallery of beautiful furniture and art.
