CIRCUS 2013 ROLLS ON; KEYNOTES FROM GOODBY AND HAVAS CONFIRMED
Sustainability in business, marketing the Facebook brand and ‘content 2020’ will be featured topics at the 2013 Circus Festival of Commercial Creativity.
Adding to its colourful line-up of heavyweights from The Coca-Cola Company and Facebook, The Communications Council is proud to confirm Goodby Silverstein & Partner’s Chief Strategy Officer and Associate Partner Gareth Kay and Global CEO of Havas, David Jones.

Executive Planning Director/Partner Fabio Buresti from The Monkeys has been awarded The Grand Prix at this year’s Creative Strategy Awards. He received the award for the OAK- flavoured milk campaign.
The Account Planning Group (APG) announced the winners at yesterday’s awards presentation in Sydney.
Overall, five gold and three silver prizes were awarded on the night, as well as five special prizes, in addition to the Grand Prix. The winners were selected from 74 entries, resulting in 29 shortlisted case studies. Special awards including best insight, best approach to research, best use of data, best non-traditional idea and best under 50k budget.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT GROUP LAUNCH SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 21; INDUSTRY EXPERTS SET TO DISCUSS DARK ART OF ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
Following the recent formation of the Account Management Group (AMG) in Victoria supported by the Communications Council and headed up by Badjar Ogilvy Melbourne’s General Manager Michael McEwan, The Communications Council now calls all Victorian agencies to join for its official Launch on Wednesday November 21. The theme for the night is ‘The Dark Art of Account Management’ and will see a panel consisting of Peter Biggs – CEO Clemenger BBDO, Tara Lordsmith – Head of Marketing, Simplot Australia, David Trewern – Chief Digital Officer, STW Group and Ben Coulsen – ECD, GPY&R seek to clarify what is often perceived as the mysterious art of account management, highlighting what they see as a ‘great suit’ and why they believe account management is still as relevant as ever.

APG ANNOUNCES FINALISTS IN CREATIVE STRATEGY AWARDS
The Account Planning Group (APG) today announced the shortlist for this year’s APG Creative Strategy Awards.
From an impressive 74 case studies received across four categories, 29 have been shortlisted by a panel of stage one Judges. Finalists will go on to a second round of judging, led by Chairman of Judges Olly Taylor, vying for the Grand Prix and category prizes. Special awards including best insight, best approach to research, best use of data, best non-traditional idea and best under 50k budget will also be awarded at the Award night in October.

LEO BURNETT EN INTEGER AUSTRALIA WINNERS AT THE 2012 MAA WORLDWIDE GLOBES
Australian agencies performed very strongly in the 2012 MAA GLOBES awards, taking out three GLOBES at last night’s international MAA GLOBES Awards, held in Chicago. In addition, three silver and two bronze awards were presented to Australian agencies. Leo Burnett Sydney took out a GLOBE for its ‘Bundaberg Watermark’ campaign for client Diageo, which saw the launch of the “Watermark” limited edition Bundaberg rum paying tribute and donating profits to Queensland towns hit by the 2011 flood disaster.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE LAW SEMINAR COMING TO BRISBANE
Australian brands and businesses are at grave reputational risk if they fail to grapple with the complex legal implications of social media marketing. This is the premise of The Communications Council’s Social Code of Conduct, a recently launched set of guidelines, spelling out best practice behaviour when working and operating within social media, aimed at helping businesses maintain a high standard of respect, integrity and transparency.

GENDER DIVERSITY AS AN ISSUE IS ‘TOO HARD’ TO TACKLE
The Communications Council has today released findings from qualitative research recently undertaken by their Gender Diversity Working Group, to better understand the attitudes of employers towards gender diversity and the stumbling blocks preventing greater gender diversity in the industry. Preliminary results indicate that gender diversity as an issue is ‘too hard’ to tackle, and has a low priority within agencies.

Perth agency 303Lowe has been awarded the Grand Effie at the 4th annual Effie awards. Its ‘Enjoy the Ride’ campaign took out two Gold Effies for The Office of Road Safety of Western Australia.

THE COMMUNICATIONS COUNCIL LAUNCHES SOCIAL MEDIA CODE OF CONDUCT
The Communications Council (TCC) has today launched its Social Media Code of Conduct to address the increasing challenges faced by individuals and businesses in the digital world. Driven by the TCC Digital Committee in consultation with TCC members, the Code provides specific guidance on best practice behaviour when working and operating within social media, to help businesses maintain a high standard of respect, integrity, transparency and honesty.

AWARD SCHOOL CELEBRATES SYDNEY GRADUATES
AWARD has today released the names of the top students graduating from the Sydney branch of AWARD School, the ideas program for aspiring art directors and copywriters.
At a graduation ceremony held on Tuesday night (7th August) at The Art House in Sydney, hosts Adrian McNamara and Hamish Grieve announced that the honours for top AWARD School student in Sydney went to Curtis McDonald. Second place was awarded to Phillip Harkness while Michael Yang came in third. The following students were also selected by the judges for commendation: David Rees, Paul Slater, Carl Fraunschiel, David Biddle, Casey Schweikert, Charlie Gearside, Sunchi Mathur and Salvatore Cavallaro.

APMA STAR AWARD WINNERS 2012 – URBAN TAKES OUT GRAND PRIX
APMA, powered by the Communications Council, today announces the 2012 Australasian Promotional Marketing Association (APMA) Star Award winners.
The annual awards, held at the Ivy in Sydney (28 July 2012), acknowledge and reward those marketing activation agencies and their clients that demonstrate outstanding results and creativity in today’s highly competitive marketplace. Celebrating the past year’s finest promotional and experiential marketing work, the winners set the benchmark for agencies in this field.
Taking out the coveted Grand Prix was new entrant URBAN who scored the top award for its ‘Coca-Cola Share a COKE’ campaign for Coca-Cola South Pacific, an idea that saw the agency personalise COKE in the summer of 2012.

2012 APMA STAR AWARDS ENTRIES
The APMA reports a 35% increase in the number of companies entering into its annual Star Awards, the awards program championing great promotional and experiential work.
Agencies and clients from across Australia and New Zealand submitted their entries, with a new development being the entering of PR companies in the program.
“We’ve seen solid numbers of entries this year but really the most exciting development is the entering of a number of new agencies and companies that haven’t previously done so. It’s a sign that these agencies are acknowledging the importance of benchmarking and celebrating great below the line creativity.” said David Lo, APMA Chairman. “The new entrants will ensure healthy competition for the 2012 Awards.”

AWARD AWARD WINNERS – STANDING ROOM ONLY AT AWARD AWARDS
A crowd of 800+ packed Sydney’s CarriageWorks to see the most outstanding creative communications work in the Asia Pacific region, celebrated at the AWARD Awards, the culmination of the festival of commercial creativity, Circus. A total of 16 gold winners were awarded on the night.
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne won the best in show award and three gold trophies for the NAB ‘Break Up’ campaign. JWT Shanghai was a four time gold winner with its ‘Heaven and Hell’ campaign for Samsonite, while Leo Burnett Sydney for Watermark and DDB Singapore for Musical Fitting Rooms won two each. Colenso BBDO New Zealand won the first Gold in the digital category for Levi Strauss & Co’s ‘ Rear View Girls’. Publicis Mojo won Gold in Film for Hahn Super Dry.

LEADING MINDS JOIN 2012 APG BATTLE OF BIG THINKING
The Account Planning Group (APG) has announces the line-up for the Battle of Big Thinking 2012.
Pastor Graham Long (Wayside Chapel), Activist Elena Jeffreys- Scarlet Alliance, CEO Debra Richards (Ausfilm) and Stephan Elliot (Director, Priscilla Queen of the Desert) will be amongst the speakers sharing their ideas. Rogan Jacobson, Teacher and previous Battle winner will return to defend his 2011 Title. The Battle of Big Thinking, part of the annual Communications Council ‘Circus’ Festival of Commercial Creativity, is set for March 28 and will welcome fifteen ‘Thinkers’ from media through to government.

MARGARET ZABEL ASSUMES CEO POSITION AT THE COMMUNICATIONS COUNCIL
The Communications Council today advised that Margaret Zabel will assume the role of CEO of the peak industry body effective immediately.
Zabel has been acting CEO of the Council since November 2011, during which time she has stewarded member projects such as the development of the Commercial Producers Council and the organisation of the Circus festival, as well as meeting with members, industry contacts and other stakeholders to gauge areas of interest and development for the organisation.

The Effies Call for Entry has been launched at Sydney’s MCA on the 31 January, 2012, with the presentation of this year’s 19 categories open for entry.
Effies Chairman Matthew Melhuish kicked off this year’s Sydney launch, welcoming guests, while Toby Dewar, General Manager Media, Sponsorship & Awards at Telstra stressed the importance of effective advertising and Martin Whelan, General Manager Marketing Business & Institutional Banking, Commonwealth Bank, shared what he looks for in a winning entry.
