Job Description

Advertising Council Australia (ACA) undertakes a wide range of tasks on behalf of its members.

The Queensland State Manager is a key role within the organisation, responsible for bringing the advertising industry together, building a strong membership base and raising the profile of the work the industry does in the local market.

The position works closely with the national Membership and Professional Development teams based in Sydney to deliver training programs and member services. The Queensland State Manager will also have the opportunity to develop new initiatives, industry relationships and business opportunities within the local market. The position would suit a candidate with previous agency experience, specifically within account management or production, who is keen to remain connected within the industry, in a part-time capacity.

Overview & Key Responsibilities

The role will become the face of the industry in Brisbane involving senior stakeholder engagement with both members and other relevant stakeholders.

You will be responsible for the local delivery of the national priorities under three strategic pillars:

  • Developing People
  • Championing Creativity
  • Demonstrating Value

The role also involves administrative and project management functions.

 Membership

As the local state representative, you will be required to develop strong relations with the leaders in the Brisbane advertising community to help drive the strategy and activities of ACA.

Key activities will include:

  • Work with local membership leaders to set objectives and strategies to promote advertising in the local market in accordance with the national strategy and calendar.

  • Identify other potential members of ACA who may wish to engage with the advertising community
  • Communicate and familiarise members with the accreditation program and any necessary requirements.
  • Communicate and familiarise members with other key membership programs such as Value-Based Pricing, Reconciliation Action Plans, Diversity & Inclusion etc.
  • Identify, organise and deliver relevant state-based versions of our national grassroots calendar, sometimes in conjunction with ACA committees eg AWARD, Account Planning Group (APG) and Youngbloods.

Professional Development

Working closely with the National PD Manager to help promote and deliver the formal courses under our key PD brands – AWARD School, AdSchool and IPA.

Tasks will include:

  • AdSchool – identify and recruit local course facilitators for the core courses, ensure members and non-members are familiar with the national calendar and identify which courses can be conducted face-to-face in Brisbane and which can be managed remotely.
  • AdSchool – lead the national online course facilitation
  • Where relevant, help members draft personal development plans for their staff across key ACA PD courses.

Preferred Background

This role would suit a candidate with previous agency experience, preferably in a senior account director or production lead role. As the role requires a level of autonomy and self-management, this would suit someone with the experience to manage an efficient and productive workflow, reporting to management in a timely manner.

The candidate will have a strong knowledge of local industry, contacts within the agency network and a sound understanding of the agency business model.

Skills and attributes

  • budget management
  • project management
  • multi-task
  • client relationships
  • excellent communication – verbal and written
  • ability to work independently and as part of a national team
  • Ability to roll up sleeves and make things happen
  • Flexibility to attend some evening events

The role is permanent part-time, most likely 1-2 days per week on average but could be more dependent upon the success. The preference would be for the 2 days to be Mondays and Thursdays to align with AWARD school rollout.

There are no set office hours so the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop a flexible approach depending upon other commitments.
