“My boss fucking hates advertising, and now I make dildos for a living”
Overview
THE ASYMMETRIC UPSIDE OF RISK (OR ‘MY BOSS F**CKING HATES ADVERTISING AND NOW I MAKE DILDOS FOR A LIVING’)
Robbie Brammall is the Director of Marketing & Communications at Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), responsible for ‘making mischief and money’ for more than forty creatively driven brands – from Mona’s many festivals including Mona Foma, to its brewery, two wineries, a fleet of camouflaged ferries, and an analogue recording studio featuring the original mixing desk from Abbey Road.
Over drinks and canapes at AWARD’s inaugural Twilight Talks event this Wednesday evening, join AWARD Chair Cam Blackley and Melbourne’s creative community to hear Robbie reveal the secrets to Mona’s creative success, lessons he has learned from going client side to help shape the iconic sex & death museum, and how dildo making is part and parcel of the job.
This will be an insightful and entertaining event for creative leaders from all corners of the industry.

Director of Marketing & Communications, Mona
In his role at Mona, Robbie has helped shape the famous Hobart museum’s expansion over the last decade. Prior to that, he was an ad guy who spent 17 years ‘faking his way around adland’ for the likes of Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, Y&R and DDB. At his job interview for the Mona gig, founder David Walsh told him: “Hiring you will probably be the biggest mistake I ever make.” This from a man that’s bought more than $2 million in fake art.
